Below is the link to temptationstairway, a work in progress fansite that will be a collection of information about the Ena franchise. I look forward to seeing what they add in the future!

About:

This is a fanpage for Ena: Dream BBQ and the titular Ena series. Here I'll write my ideas about the world and its characters, display fan art, and more.

This is where I will put my own graphics (dividers, stamps, ect) here for your use.

Because of the absurdism of the Ena franchise, obviously there are few solid determinations you can make about anything, and I think it's silly when people do act that like, Ena's actions and world adhere to the same logic that earth does, but it is interesting to try and anylize her personality from different angles.

Firstly, an overview of Ena's behaviour between the series and game: In the series Ena has a sad persona which uses very child-like language, whereas her happy persona emits this hollow positive aura, that observes the world factually with little reaction. In Dream BBQ Ena has the "meanie" persona, still showing that she doesn't cope with pressure well, but like, in the complete opposite direction. She's loud and demanding and impatient. Then she also has the salesman persona, which is very reminicient of the old happy persona, except with corporate language.

What's most interesting is when she acts "normal", by our standards at least. It begs the question, are her extreme personas acts? The most obvious answer for Dream BBQ, I think, would be that her salesman persona is the mask she puts on. But that's overly simplistic and would make my procrastination time all too short. There are three instances where Ena acts "normal" that I can remember: Once yelling in reaction to Moonie's wish in "Temptation Stairway", once in Dream BBQ after she shouts in the wizards tent and then her body almost disipates, and again in Dream BBQ when she wakes up in the void containing the Genthroom, with her soul basically hanging out of a hole in her now humanized body. I think about the latter scene a lot. Again the most obvious answer here would be that she's simply too tired or shocked to put up a mask, but, you could also look at it from the opposite angle: Is she too out of sorts to be her genuine self? And of course, they might be all equally genuine faces and her personality is simply too abstract to quantify.

In any case I would never say her salesman or happy persona is 100% fake, but more so that she exaggerates it more than would be genuine, resulting in outbursts.

I'll come back later and elaborate, but for now here are my notes on the consistancies between the series and the game's world, to show that they are at least partially connected, but also to simply give an overview on the world as a whole.

  • Personified doors. Ena goes through one in Temptation Stairway. It also has the same color as doors in Dream BBQ.
  • Implication of there being multiple Ena's. This is implied multiple times in dialogue and multiples of her can be briefly seen in Temptation Stairway when she passes the shepherd and enters the code.
  • Chocolate as currency. Seen in Auction Day, and also can be aquired in game after completing a quest, which you can then use to buy mayonnaise.
  • The blue tombstones with mouths which appear in Auction Day as bidders, and also in outworld. If the story between the series and game is consistent, it makes me wonder why the hell she was casually hanging out with Moonie there.
  • Genies. In Ena BBQ genies are often mentioned, and thus far we know of Theodora, the bathroom genie in the lonely door. Knowing Theodora can grant wishes (sorta) it's reasonable to believe Runas in Temptation Stairway is one as well. Many people theorize the Therapist in Power of Potluck is a genie too.
  • Blood ID's. The Shepard lends Ena a blood ID in Temptation Stairway which appears as an electronic component, and Coral Glasses in Dream BBQ also tell Ena that if she finds an entity to organize the inauguraton for the new genie in horse door, to fax her a blood sample (from said entity).
  • The hallways in Extinction Party can be breifly seen through one of the doors in the purge event in Dream BBQ. It has been explored with mods but seems to contain nothing.
